Thom Yorke to contribute new track to Twilight sequel

by Jonathan on July 24, 2009 · 69 comments

This is a followup to the story we told you about earlier this week about Thom Yorke contributing to the Twilight Saga: New Moon movie. In an interview with HitFix.com at Comic-Con, director Chris Weitz again said that Thom will be contributing to the soundtrack, this time adding that it will be a brand new track. Weitz also said that he will be listening to Thom’s track today (July 24) and ”unless it’s sounds of him belching, I think I’ll put it in.”

Bon Iver was also mentioned as contributing a new track.

4 Mike July 24, 2009 at 4:05 pm

I think a little piece of me died when I heard this. :(

10 Milo July 24, 2009 at 7:14 pm

Mr. Yorke, that joke isn’t funny anymore… New moon is not dancer in the dark…, what’s next? A colaboration to coldplay? Ok people, maybe we’re just fans be obssesed with a silly and stupid teen movie and it’s just a madly and spontaneous a decision. Maybe ms. Is his friend… Who hell knows! Maybe we might be wrong

11 ddd July 24, 2009 at 7:37 pm

he still the same guy that wrote Kid A isn’t he… stop being so arrogant

12 tony piao July 24, 2009 at 8:07 pm

Guys stop bitching, we get a new song from Thom yorke!!!!!!!

13 Ciz July 24, 2009 at 8:55 pm

NEW SONG!!!!!!!!!!! Who cares if it is in Twilight! I didn’t care Fake Plastic Tress was in that sh*t Clueless or that masterpiece Exit Music was in that sh*t Romeo and Juliet movie with Leo DiCaprio! IT. IS. A. NEW. THOM.YORKE.SONG! Nuff said.

14 Tricia July 24, 2009 at 9:14 pm

I’m not too happy with the situation, but a new Thom Yorke song is always good news.
I’m trying to look on the bright side! (Although I did yell “no!” when I saw the headline)

15 MP July 24, 2009 at 9:35 pm

Well, this may still be debunked/corrected. I’m not buying it until I see an official press release with the movie’s actual tracklisting. After all, I remember a similar piece of news that Thom/RH were going to be contributing new music to Richard Linklater’s A Scanner Darkly, and Linklater himself said so, but it ended up that they just gave them the rights to use Black Swan and Fog. It could be that the Twilight director is just referring to Thom’s recent Mark Mulcahy cover.

16 Peter July 25, 2009 at 7:54 am

Fuck Thom.

17 Topso Marvo July 25, 2009 at 8:01 am

I guess even Yorke got hit by the recession.

18 Jair July 25, 2009 at 8:32 am

Well, at least it’s only a Thom Yorke song, not Radiohead.
But still… it’s always good to hear his songs.
And, c’mon, that’s not news, in Twilight movie, 15 Step was there, on the credits.

19 PsychedlicRonin July 25, 2009 at 8:39 am

Thom? What was it, casino or heroine?

20 M July 25, 2009 at 11:48 am

You guys are so ridiculous! I bet you all secretly love twlight, but just can’t admit it because you think you’re too cool.

21 pukegreen July 25, 2009 at 12:35 pm

M, everyone is too cool to be a fan of twilight. Its pretty shit

22 MightBeWrong? July 25, 2009 at 12:56 pm

hmm I think it’s OK that he writes a song for Twilight…
Look: It’s a normal book and a normal film and a normal soundtrack. There’s nothing I complain about. Just these annoying teen girl, having posters of the vampire boy in the book all over their walls and think they are in love with a non-existing person really suck Oo

Thom will get a lot of new fans… but I hope they are not doing the same with him …
Thom yorke posters, all over teenie bed-room walls Oo

but… I might be wrong ? ;)

23 OKcommuter July 25, 2009 at 1:53 pm

what about the use of 15 step in the end credits for the first movie? my girlfriend (who sadly loves twilight… probably just because of that dude because really, why else would anyone care about it?) anyway… oh yeah, so my girlfriend bought the dvd and i was somewhat shocked that 15 step was used in the credits. i heard someone say that they used it without permission, but that can’t possibly be true. what is the story on that? anyone know how that happened?

24 anon July 25, 2009 at 10:00 pm

Unless you’re an elitist jerk who doesn’t want other people liking your favorite music (which seems silly anyway, since Radiohead has been one of the most popular acts in the world for many years now), it’s basically a win-win situation if this is true.

Us fans win because there’s new music by Thom.

Thom wins because he makes more money, either by tapping into a new market, being paid a crapload of money by Summit, or both.

Thom having more money means Thom can keep making more new music for us to love.

…and the cycle goes on. :)

25 livvie July 25, 2009 at 10:50 pm

there’s a reason they call them twi-tards.

this is far, far shittier than fake plastic trees being used in romeo and juliet. FFS, at least that was shakespeare, even if it’s shakespeare that got screwed with. this is bad fanfic written by a sexually unfulfilled woman with the skills of a mouthbreather.

15 step in twilight was bad enough, this is far worse. unless his daughter or rachel are fans (which i doubt in the extreme) i think thom is losing it. for someone who used to bitch long and hard about corporate crap and naomi klein and no logo he sure is getting into bed with a lot of assholes. if he’d never been such a outspoken guy about it i wouldn’t have cared. but he did. now he strikes me as a big fat hypocrite.

if he lets them use present tense i can promise bricks will be shat.

to the poster worrying about thom’s bank account–thom has more money than god. he doesn’t need anymore. what he needs is to stop selling out to the tools of the corporate world.

26 livvie July 25, 2009 at 11:05 pm

sorry about the mistake re: romeo and juliet–i know it’s exit music, i’m just so pissed at this that my brain skipped.

27 Alex July 26, 2009 at 12:38 am

Anyone remember when Jonny and Phil were in Harry Potter. I don’t hear anyone making a stink about that…

28 livvie July 26, 2009 at 2:28 am

harry potter is at least marginally intelligent writing? and neither jonny nor phil yapped for years on end about how evil the corporate system was. thom did. loudly and repetitively. now that he’s becoming more and more enamored of the idea of letting asshats use his music, it irks some of us. do i still like radiohead? yes. do i enjoy the music? yes. do i think thom is a bit of a hypocrite? hell yes.

deal.

29 M July 26, 2009 at 8:16 am

Who are you to decide whether Harry Potter is marginally intelligent writing or not? Just stop biatching and be glad he’s making music! GOD!

30 livvie July 26, 2009 at 9:36 am

the fuck? he MAKES MUSIC ANYHOW. he’s a MUSICIAN. it’s not like you’d never hear another new thom yorke song ever if it weren’t for new moon, so spare me and also try to remember that not everyone has to think the way you do. i’m not forcing my opinion on you, so do me the same favor. thanks.

p.s. harry potter beats twilight because it’s not written by a frustrated mormon housewife who seems to endorse teenage pregnancy, obsessive/stalker behavior on the part of a love interest and also, there’s no ‘chew the infant vampire out of the womb’ scene.

31 caro July 26, 2009 at 3:27 pm

you people are elitist and snob!!

32 Ciz July 26, 2009 at 3:40 pm

hey livvie! Thom already said he is a bit of an hypocrite, he knows very well who he is as a person and who he is as a musician. He would just destroy you with little argument. Get down of your freaky pedestal. I am glad he will have more songs out there, for more people to hear. Just because he is a genius he doesn’t need to be a snob and stay only in artsy soundtracks.

33 natalie July 26, 2009 at 4:54 pm

twlight is a dumb movie it wasn’t a big deal the jonny greenwood did the soundtrack for potter because potter is actually some what of a a list type of movie twlight is all bulllshit. yes they are both stupid but one is less then the other.

34 Thom Y. July 26, 2009 at 5:43 pm

I’m a reasonable man, get off my case, get off my case.

35 jj July 26, 2009 at 10:28 pm

the miley cyrus rant was a bigger deal than this haha. the guy makes music for a …’living’. bet nothing will change when the cd comes out. besides, romeo and juliet, clueless, a scanner darkly, 1st twilight, harry potter, there will be blood. they have a long reputation of being involved in movies in some way…so who cares. new music from any member or radiohead is good music. the only way thom could escape corporate influence is to never play at any major festival ever again. he is a brilliant musician, i doubt he cares what anyone thinks that doesn’t personally know him.

36 take a chill pill July 27, 2009 at 12:22 am

“thom’s gone bonkers, god help us all!”

lol

37 Dennis July 27, 2009 at 3:12 am

PLEASE, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! T_T

38 h_e_n_r_y July 27, 2009 at 8:40 am

Thom Yorke will finally win an Oscar.

39 Nick July 27, 2009 at 9:54 am

It’s about time! Seems like forever since we’ve heard new material from Thom and the boys.

40 JOBO July 27, 2009 at 12:02 pm

I’m confused. I’m not sure how to feel anymore. I wish I could sit down with Thom, drink some tea, and chit chat for a little while. After that, maybe I can sort my feelings out.

41 tony piao July 27, 2009 at 12:43 pm

what is exactly so bad about twilight?

42 a very calm person July 27, 2009 at 1:26 pm

Livvie, you seem to know alot about twilight though you hate it. You also seem to be a very angry person. Never thought about taking anger management?

43 Venk July 27, 2009 at 3:26 pm

I completely agree with jj…last time I checked, “romeo and juliet” was a silly teen movie back in the 90s and we can all agree that ‘talk show host’ was brilliant. You guys and gals need to calm down…it’s not like he’s on MTV Cribs or shagging with Paris Hilton

it’s RADIOHEAD!!…don’t second guess them, let’s be ‘optimistic’ here!

44 jack g July 28, 2009 at 3:19 am

Livviw pretty much nailed the reasons Twilight sucks with this:

“p.s. harry potter beats twilight because it’s not written by a frustrated mormon housewife who seems to endorse teenage pregnancy, obsessive/stalker behavior on the part of a love interest and also, there’s no ‘chew the infant vampire out of the womb’ scene.”

It really IS a fanfic sexual fantasy, and a garbage one at that. I read the first two books because I had heard so many people say it was the ‘next Harry Potter’ and good God could I not have been more disgusted with mainstream opinion. Thankfully everyone with half a brain slammed the hell out of the fourth book for being so fucking weird.

It’s one thing to put your music in a mainstream movie. It’s another thing to put it in a shit mainstream movie with oddly obsessed fans who clearly have awful taste in a good deal of things.

45 Emm July 28, 2009 at 4:47 am

Livvie- your comments made my night

46 h_e_n_r_y July 28, 2009 at 2:01 pm

To compare the inclusion of a new Thom Yorke song in Twilight 2 with the inclusion of Jonny’s compositions in There Will Be Blood is fuckin’ absurd.

There Will Be Blood is a masterpiece, directed by a man who outdoes himself with every project. Jonny submitted a great score that was unfairly overlooked by the Academy. New Moon is the sequel to a garbage film, directed by the master who wrote Nutty Professor II: The Klumps. So let’s not expect a “True Love Waits.”

47 Just sayin July 28, 2009 at 5:00 pm

Harry Potter is infinitely better than Twilight. I read both series, and there’s not competition.
Also im not buying anything until Thom says it himself.

48 Ciz July 28, 2009 at 7:46 pm

Harry Potter sucks as well.

49 sarah July 28, 2009 at 8:15 pm

Let’s forget that Thom Yorke already had his own songs, from his incredible master SOLO work, in artsy movies as A Scanner Darkly, directed by Richard Linklater, and The Prestige, directed by Chris Nolan! So now, only because he will have a song in a popular franchise, ‘OH! GOD! Yorke sucks!’ You are all a bunch of snobs! SNOBS!

50 M2 July 29, 2009 at 3:13 am

Radiohead fans…. uich….

Why does it matter?
Don’t watch twilight if you don’t like it, just buy/download Thom’s new song when it’s available….

Ok crisis over. Now you can all go back to blaming McDonald’s for all the world’s problems.
