lozenge of love

It may be short but it is actually (in my opinion) one of their more beautiful songs. It's the story of a man stewing about how he needs, more than anything, someone there for him but the man really doesn't have the strength to be there for this person he desires so much, while all his problems are getting bigger as he sits around and stews about it. The fast pace yet quiet guitar in the backround is representing this man's life raging by him as he sings his problems at a slightly slower pace than his life (or the guitar).

Here's the verse by verse:

"i am gone everybodys raging and these fruits they still taste of poison"

I think Thom is telling us by saying "i am gone everybody's raging" he's stateing about how odd your life becomes while you're not there, because even though you are gone people you know are of course still living their lives, but in the process changing your life but you don't know it because you're not there. Then again he could be saying the speaker is separated at the moment from the goings on of the world, and is trying to vent frustration to you the listener. "and these fruits they still taste of poison" he's saying he can taste the things going on and they taste bad so he'll remain in his happy place while his life rages on.

"i won't be around when you really need me"

well, he's basically telling the listener you may be here for me, but in the future i will not be here for you.

"i can't sleep why can't someone hold me i need warm, my restless body cracks and moans"

In this verse he is expressing his despare about how much he needs his very own person there for him. It is the emotional climax of the song.

"i won't have the strength, when you really need me." 'Nuff said,
