I don't mean to sound too indie-snob about this, but really. Who are these people and why do they bother going to see Radiohead?

Having witnessed a blistering performance in London earlier in the week, I thought the press criticism – The Times called them "discordant" – largely unfair. Yes, a stadium-esque 30,000 capacity is by-and-large ill suited to their most intimidate material, though that did not spoil proceedings.

Yet surrounded by drunken idiots, in the rain, what became a minor annoyance in London became downright infuriating this Friday night in Glasgow. "Play Creep ya poofy bastart" was the standard audience reaction to anything other than the 90s hits, which admittedly did prompt mass drunken singalongs. Many were apparently disappointed Oasis were not on stage, and left well before the end.

Musically, the band was on form for much of the evening, particularly in the encores including thundering versions of Paranoid, Myxomatosis and closer Idioteque. Though clearly not particularly impressed, Thom nevertheless made an effort to please the crowd with trademark energetic dancing, even if his "you should move down south" comment on the weather provoked predictable boos.

A good example this evening of how a crowd can ruin an otherwise excellent show. As a Glaswegian born and bread in pains me to say this, but give me a subdued and polite - if somewhat snide - London audience over these morons any day.

Besides the poor weather this was one hell of a gig!
Admittedly I'm not a superfan and so was not overly familiar with some songs (like spinning plates, optimistic, there there) but thankfully they brought the house down with the hits that we all desperately wanted!
Only creep could have rounded this off better than idioteque did but we all knew that wasnt going to happen anyway!
The lights were something special especially during paranoid android by this time it was dark on the green.
Well done with a smashing gig guys and please don't wait another 5 years to come back to Glasgow.

This was the second time i have seen Radiohead (The first at V Festical Staffordshire), and to say the least i was not dissapointed.
It was a stronger set at V festival however they included two of my favourites No Suprises, and Fake Plastic Trees. I was also a real treat to hear the gloomy Like Spinning Plates. The mix of piano and eerie vocals haunts the soul.
Although it rained all night the music was well worth it, and I cant wait till their next tour.

It was a fantastic gig. Great to hear the new stuff live and alot of stuff off Amnesiac and Kid A. National Anthem won it for me. It started with some gaelic radiostation on the wee radio, which was a nice scottish touch. Lights were fantastic, Thom was on form with his vocals espectially in videotape.

The second encore blew me away. When they played 2+2=5 i pretty much exploded! I dont think anyone saw Idioteque coming either.

Unfortunately it proved to be another lovely scottish summers day and evening - in other words it was pissing it down.

I unfortunately missed the last time they came to Glasgow and I made sure I didnt miss this one.
Considering the weather the crowd were in good spirits and the Green is not a bad place for a gig - unless you were at the back where the slope flattens out making it hard to see the stage.

The band itself were great but not really talkative - but from the videos of gigs before I didnt really expect them to be. The set list covered most of the favourites - apart from ( my fav ) Street Spirit and of course a lot of people wanted Creep.

Most of the crowd went mental at anything from The Bends and OK Computer although National Anthem and There There got folk bouncing.

The set was good with those light bars and mini cams projecting onto side screens keeping the attention if you didnt have a direct view of the stage.

One thing that I didnt really like was there always a gap between one song and another, to change guitar, bring on a piano whatever so I never felt the gig smoothly rolled on.

Overall well worth it but a shame it rained so hard.

That was fantastic, and a truly awesome set. No Suprises, Just, Optimistic, Fake Plastic Trees and ending on Idioteque - can you ask for more?

It was torrential rain during the entire set and it made it even better. The perfect atmosphere. When its p*ssing down during 'rain down...' from paranoid andriod, it really doesn't get much better than that.

best gig i've been to in a long while j x

First of all a wee comment on the review posted by Alistair, I think you were at a different gig to me. Not once did I sense any discontent from Thom. I rather doubt he heard any calls from the obligatory drunks. Lighten up.

This was my first time seeing Radiohead and it was everything I hoped for and more. Idioteque was absolutely awesome, really got me dancing :D

Like Spinning Plates was the highlight for me though, such a beautiful song.

Still buzzing really so this review lacks any structure, all I can say is that this was the best gig I've been to and I can't wait to see them again.

Took my less than Radiohead-enthusiast wife up to Glasgow Green on a wet and miserable Friday night. She knows about 4 songs and thankfully they played them all, particularly Fake Plastic Trees which gets her all weepy for some reason. Even she had to admit she was impressed by the range of musical talent they possess and what a show they put on.

Only my second Radiohead gig with the first being on the back of Hail To The Thief. Never expected a chatty night from Thom, what I did expect i.e. an wide array of excellent tunes many from In Rainbows. I got. Was pleasantly surprised to hear that many from Bends/OK Computer, I think the weather may have influenced the selection of those ones. Decent sing-a-long by the locals to boot.

Looking forward to next time I can get to see them.

Awesome!
As for the drunken idiots mentioned in the previous review it's a gig you're at not a church outing. Anyone with half a brain who has been to a gig before can spot a gang of neds/shouting idiots a mile off and steer well clear. Although i must admit they were few and far between on Friday as far as I saw.
Fed up of reading these I'm so musically astute I don't want to hear any back catalogue before Kid A and anyone who does must be come sort of sub-human lummox. The snobbery of a certian element of the radiohead fanbase really irritates me. A musical "kicking squealing gucci little piggie" comes to mind.
Well I'm proud to like the old stuff as well as the newer more prgressive stuff. I've been going to radiohead gigs for years and apart from last gig on the green this stands up there with the best for me. Sure there were drunk people in the crowd sure they might wanna hear some older stuff (I didn't here one single person shout for creep btw). They've got as much right to be there and shout for the songs they like as anyone else does. Paranoid Android blew me away 2+2=5 was just fantastic. I also loved fake plastic trees which is one of my all time favs. The stuff from In Rainbows was tremendous live and was surprised by the positive reaction of the crowd. I brought along a couple of friends who are now full radiohead converts.

It was an outragously good performace, you couldn't ask for a better set really. I perticularly enjoyed the gloaming and myxamatosis, although I was astounded and enraptured through every song.
Hate to sound snobby but the drunken semi-fans did irritate me. Never enough to ruin what was an awesome night.

Friday's Glasgow gig is one of the finest performances from one of, if not the worlds finest band, you will see for a hell of a long time! Why people seem to let rain be an excuse to ruin a gig is beyond me, it adds to the occasion. Worse still were the people not paying attention to the live masterclass, who were too worried about the fact thom had red trousers on. But, i didn't let the crowd get in my way, i was there to see Radiohead and nothing else. I got what I wanted, a huge chunk of In Rainbows, their finest work so far, and most of my favourites from years gone by. For all of you people who keep yelling 'play creep', give up. They don't want to play it, and quite frankly, they have much better songs in their back catologue such as the whole of OK Computer, i would have preferred to hear Exit Music.
Highlight of the show had to be between Spinning Plates and 2+2=5, both showstoppers but in very different ways, such is the brilliance of Radiohead.

Brilliant show, thoroughly enjoyed it despite the bloody awful weather. Oh for a bit of sun. Nevertheless it was a brilliant set, I thought the stage lighting was brilliant and my non-Radiohead fan friend was stunned coming away saying it was the best gig she'd ever been to.

I've seen them 3 times now and I have to say that they transfer to somewhere like the Brixton Academy better than Glasgow Green but they gave it a good go and seemed to please everyone....well nearly. Can't think of a stand out track as my brain has melted into butter through sheer aural beauty....or something.

This is the first time I've been moved to write a review and sadly not because of the performance. Having seen Radiohead twice before and been blown away both times I had been looking forward to Friday night for months. Loving everything they have recorded ever since first catching them singing Creep years ago on a Thursday night on TOTP, the stunning variety of the setlist should have left me speechless. Unfortunately the crowd was not. How people can pay good money to watch and hear one of the greatest bands in the world and spend the whole night talking to their mates, making mobile phone calls and not even face the stage beats me. And no, we're not talking a few Neds here, but dozens and dozens of clueless folk clearly only wanting to hear the hits from The Bends and OK Computer. Guess what folks, Radiohead made music before and after those 2 albums too, but if you're not prepared to listen, how are you going to know whether if you like it or not? The band may have been great, but for me the night was a waste of time, completely ruined by the ignorant crowd. Sorry Glasgow, but I made the mistake of not attending a gig in Dublin. I won't make the same mistake again.

Amazing! Will definately stay long in the memory.

Friday night was my first Radiohead gig, I purchased the tickets quite some time ago. I ventured into sunny (hmm) Glasgow on the train (Best for CO2 according to Radiohead!) with my mate Matthew he's seen them umpteen times, the swine! flew over from France just to see them!

I'll admit I wasn't massively excited, just relaxed really. Didn't want to build it up for myself incase I was disappointed.

Jesus did that change when 15 steps kicked off the evening!! What a great choice to kick the evening off with. Set it up perfectly in my opinion. I was very eager to hear Bodysnatchers live and it was well above my expectations, but National Anthem for me personally was just on another level. What an amazing song live. Jonny on the bass was hypnotic! Not only for National Anthem, but many of the others.

Most folk would've felt that the rain would've brought everyone's enthusiasm for a gig down, but if anything it helped add even more atmosphere to it. I did like's Thom's very first comment in the performance "You should all move down s'arf", oft! brave chap saying that up in Glasgow! lol

Karma Police though will definately stand out for me, being my favourite song of any artist, the little individual encor that Thom provided at the end was the perfect way to end that song and provide everyone with a wee sing along. No pun intended, but "I Lost Myself" when it was played for sure.

Nude and Fake Plastic Tree's were also notable for the fact that I've rarely had a song get the hairs on the back of my neck on end.

Sadly it all came to an end, leaving me wondering when I'll get a chance to see them next. The night continued for me and my mate with a trip to The Arches where a few mates who weren't in attendance at the gig, asked how the gig went, to which I replied with a thumbs up and an "Amazing!"

Like some of the previous reviewers i too have been to more than this one Radiohead gig, so naturally i was trying to work out which was the better gig between Glasgow Green in June 08 and August 06 Edinburgh Meadowbank Stadium. My conclusion? they were both outstanding.

I don't think i'll ever forget the Glasgow gig as i don't think i've ever heard them play a version of "like spinning plates" as good as they did then. I've heard many versions of the song through YouTube or live recording sessions. Karma Police was also one of the major highlights of the gig, the fans 2-3 minutes after the song were still singing along to the chorus as if it was the fans cry out for radiohead to come out and do their encore.

I read the reviews here about how the fans were drunk and annoying for the most part, while i agree to a certain extent i feel disappointed to see that people feel that the fans behaviour was a bigger issue than it actually was and will devote a huge chunk of the review to that rather than the actual band itself. There were times i wished i had never stood where i stood, but never once did i ever feel any regret attending and ultimately seeing in my opinion the best band in the world.

Radiohead once again proved to me that they are simply amazing. Their range of music is outstanding and i felt that Glasgow Greens gig had one of the best setlists for any of their gigs. The continual rain added to the atmosphere and the quality of music on show was enough to make me forget about how soaking i actually was.

Thank you Radiohead. You simply are the best band around, Period.

MMMMMMMMMMM Glasgow? what can i say that hasnt been already huh? Yeh there were a lot of typically drunken louts, they got dealt with pretty quickly, tfg! Excellent performance by the band, Thom was his usual self,i took my younger girlfriend who has only really heard the new album, she loved it and we have managed to get tickets for Foro Sol to let her see what it is really all about in some decent weather!
Come back to Scotland soon lads, Mexico is a fuckin expensive way to educate my bird!
