identikit sucks (at least live)... don't understand the fascination for this
and skirting... it's not bad, but they could come up with a better version, yes, the piano one is still way much better...

i can see how people would be turned off by identikit, the first and second parts are pretty strange and a little jarring, but the synthesizer and the guitar at the end are so cool. it's a simple pop song about broken hearts, but done radiohead style.
i like the way thom's voice is kind of fragile in this song, and the little creaks. it fits with the lyrics and the images. it's such an honest and sad, soft pleading when he sings "i don't want to know."
identikit is the sound of a single night of forbidden romance between kid a and creep.

If they record it just like this, it has a good chance of being a top 10 RH song for me. That rhythm just gets me. Then you have Ed's effects and backing vocals, plus Jonny's synth at the end. Just so chilled.
Identikit is great as well and I expect them to get the recording right.
Cut a Hole is a nice, pretty track, which will likely be beautiful on record.
Ful Stop is my least favourite of the 4 at this stage, but is still a good, energetic song.
They are still producing the goods 20 years after that first album.

holy shit, PH is 20 years old this year ![]()
Shoot low boys, they're ridin' Shetland ponies
Definately Identikit for me ![]()
I have complete faith in Identikit.
First off, the second part is what makes the song, so I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. You take that away from Identikit and you take away the dark center that the rest of the song revolves around. It's the most energetic part of the song, and Part 2 going into Part 3 is probably more entertaining than Part 1 going into Part 3.
As for the transition, (if it even needs much of a change) I don't think it's that's hard to solve. Thom just needs to hold the last "know" in "I don't want to know" for four-to-eight beats (gradually adding some gruff to his vocals) and let Jonny slam the guitar chords that he plays at the END of Part 2 (that leads into Part 3) as the transition INTO Part 2 as well, and voila, all neat and tidy.
They have a history of making great songs out of starkly contrasting parts. It's kinda their thing (Creep, Paranoid Android, I Might Be Wrong, SDSU, 2+2=5, Bodysnatchers, Weird Fishes... Ful Stop). It'll work.
Yeah I have no doubt they'll work their magic in the studio. It's just that you can't always convey live what you intend a song to sound like
That's definitely true. I wouldn't necessarily say Identikit is in that boat, though. More like a tweak or two could patch up the live version good enough to be on an album. Maybe the heavy studio vibe of TKOL just has me itching and over-appreciating the live, erratic nature of all the new songs. Minus Skirting--not very erratic, that one.
That transition in Identikit was rough in the beginning, but it got better. It sounds completely fine in the Coachella version.

If it stays in this form it's destined to be the next iteration of House of Cards/Give Up the Ghost - a pretty song punctuated by some interesting moments but overall kind of a snoozer.
I would not describe either of those songs that way. Jerk.

Feminism's the big thing at the moment and I think that's great
Skirting reminds me of the earlier version of Go Slowly when they toured that song around 2007.

Hmm, I can see that. If they gave Skirting the same treatment they gave Go Slowly, I might be interested. Of course, that's just because it'd be halfway towards a completely new song I guess.
