Willow Smith aka Will Smith's daughter released a new song which heavily samples Codex (like the entire song). For a 12 year old girl this is a pretty good effort I have to admit...

Is she the one that did that "I WHIP MA HAIR BACK AND FORTH I WHIP MA HAIR BACK AND FORTH I WHIP MA HAIR BACK AND FORTH" song?

If so, yeah it's a bit different from that. But it's nothing special, every pop singer does that "Sad ballad" type song. She has got a good voice though.

Yeah, she's the one. I have to admit the lyrics are really good and sad for someone so young.

It's actually funny reading the comments on the song from her usual fans "dis sounds so depressing1!!"

I'm expecting someone to come out of the woodwork and say "Well, it's a Radiohead song, of course it's depressing!" any time now.

She sounds quite a bit like Rihanna doesn't she?

And I know everyone is getting pissed that she's sampling Codex and hasn't credited Radiohead, but surely she (Or the producer or whatever) would have had to ask permission to use part of the song anyway? Well...the whole song really.

usually people pay for sampling. usually. but it's not like many people explicitly credit the original artist for it. plus it's on Soundcloud. if she doesn't make any money from it, it doesn't matter who she samples. that's why a lot of people release free albums and mixtapes now. guaranteed that a few songs will have samples that they couldn't clear.

and I'm sure not everyone here can name all the pieces of music Radiohead has sampled in their time. and Radiohead are big enough that more people will recognise it than the usual sample.

this is actually pretty good, yeah. the way her voice meanders around the notes and the beat, i thought that was pretty awesome. and yeah, the lyrics are good too. at least compared to Whip My Hair. it's got a lot more going for it.

but people are gonna get all moany about it because it's their precious Radiohead and that's sad. let the kid do what she wants.

The comments for this sure are lovely.

everything the one trick pony Radiohead is one emo track after the other. Just how many sadistic experaince can these people live through until it becomes a routine, cash money.

i'm mad worried about her state of mind right now. they say radiohead is for depressing peeps and for future hobos.she shouldnt be listening to depressing music at her age. a person at that age should be listening to fun happy music. why not introduce her to coldplay or muse or any of the other bands that copied radiohead? at least those bands are happier and non depressing but still retain the radiohead magic she seeks

Depressing peeps and FUTURE HOBO'S.

I remember after the Toronto stage collapse my local paper posted the article about it on facebook and the first comment was "they're still around?"

Tbh that latter comment I'm not even sure if it's serious or not, 'that copied Radiohead' etc., might just be an actual Radiohead fan dicking around

Pretty nice. Good vocals, though it sounds like it might be autotuned.
