There have been a lot of whispers and rumours about Thom Yorke's Atoms for Peace project since the band formed in 2009 to play The Eraser live. In the new issue of Dazed & Confused, the fabled frontman clears up the speculation surrounding Amok, his first group album outside of Radiohead, with one of his most in-depth interviews to date. He also talks frankly about his life and work, discussing his uneasy relationship with fame, that video for "Lotus Flower" and why he's still intent on bending people's heads of out shape.

Sounds like the article will be pretty cool though. It's in depth, and we get 2 weeks of people asking him stuff. 

Gotta say this is the first photo shoot I've seen in ages where Thom doesn't just look all moody and shit. He does however look like a hobo/zombie.

Can't break them up, but regarding the times I just listened to it again and wrote them down. A few kind of lead into eachother so it makes it difficult but from what I can hear:

"But it's not a band album either; it doesn't sound like a band playing … We wanted to go into the song realm, because it felt good to do that. [But] if it were up to me, every track would be 10 minutes long … To me, the Atoms album is not dancey enough."

feel like "not dancey enough" is gonna be my opinion of it too. for all Thom's interest in dance music and rubbing shoulders with Four Tet and Daphni, he's not really that good at it.

I agree, but what we've heard so far is pretty much in the vein of the eraser. I dont know who Thom thinks he's kidding, but a definite step up in quality from the eraser

I disagree with you regarding your impression that what we've heard is pretty much in the vein of the eraser. The eraser's instrumentation was sparse and overwhelming dominated by electronics and pretty singular in vision. His sonic (and harmonic) vocabulary is much more varied and expressive in the new stuff. I'm particularly talking about the really new stuff like last couple of days but it's all pretty fresh.

Default was honestly the most Eraser sounding song we've heard so far. Everything else I think has branched out into more dynamic instrumentation, themes, etc.

yeah, it's probably better than the Eraser but D&C calling him "a true EDM renaissance man" is ridiculous hyperbole. Thom's a pretty small and inconsequential fish in a big pond of awesomeness. Makes a nice change, really, from being Radiohead.
