Radiohead Lyrics

Trans-Atlantic Drawl

I was born for your magazines
For your magazines
I am trapped in the society page
Of your magazines
Of your magazines
I don’t know what it means

Do you see light at the end of the tunnel?
At the end of the tunnel?
Do you see light at the end of the tunnel?
At the end of the tunnel?
At the end of the tunnel?

It is thought that “Trans-Atlantic Drawl” is inspired from a quote from the former Iraqi Deputy Prime Minster, Tariq Aziz, who said in an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, “We don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel, Christiane. With all respect to them, they haven’t shown us — nobody has shown us a light at the end of the tunnel. There is a tunnel after the tunnel.”

This quote appeared on radiohead.com around the time Kid A and Amnesiac was being recorded.

  • Daniel

There is a secret message in the song which can be found when the vocals are removed. It’s hard to make out what it says but it sounds like “These fuckers are getting on my nerves” and then “Stay away from me”

  • The Missing Patient

Also, “you better start naming names… you better start naming names…” is repeated before the song explodes into the strange, slow haunting electronic finale.
