Radiohead Lyrics

Optimistic

Flies are buzzing round my head
Vultures circling the dead
Picking up every last crumb
The big fish eat the little ones
The big fish eat the little ones
Not my problem, give me some

You can try the best you can
If you try the best you can
The best you can is good enough
If you try the best you can
If you try the best you can
The best you can is good enough

This one’s optimistic
This one went to market
This one just came out of the swamp
This one dropped a payload
Fodder for the animals
Living on animal farm

If you try the best you can
If you try the best you can
The best you can is good enough
If you try the best you can
If you try the best you can
The best you can is good enough

I’d really like to help you, man
I’d really like to help you, man
Nervous messed up marionettes
Floating around on a prison ship

If you try the best you can
If you try the best you can
The best you can is good enough
If you can try the best you can
If you try the best you can
Dinosaurs roaming the Earth
Dinosaurs roaming the Earth
Dinosaurs roaming the Earth

SONG INFORMATION

Released: October 2000
Found on: Kid A

No singles were released from Kid A, but promos of several songs from the album, including “Optimistic”, were sent to radio stations. Without an official single specified by the band or label, the guitar-driven “Optimistic” became the default track to be picked up by alternative rock stations in the United States.

-Ed: “I really love the words, especially the line ‘this one just crawled out the swamp’ reminds me a bit of PJ Harvey’s blues stuff. cool.” July 12, 1999

  • Bella

I thought for the longest time it was “the big fish, equilaterals” and this makes more sense

  • bmizzle

where are the tabs yo? been com in here for years and they are gone… WTF?

  • Fresno Bob

I always thought the lyric was “Big fish eats the little one, not my problem if you’re small”.

  • The Missing Patient

Despite the official lyrics, I swear Thom sings, “the best you can just ain’t good enough.”
