Radiohead Lyrics

What’s That You See?

No longer caught up
Big church wall
Making some noise with a pair of drums
Lying your thoughts out over the sky
Spinning around as you gaze at the sun

(What is that you see?)
Why don’t you talk to me?
(What don’t you talk to me?)
What is that you see?
(What is that you see?)
Wrapping your fingers around my neck

I see the grass is still when we made our beds
I see the thin weed boy ride at this edge
I see the holy Jesus and the Pharaoh and the Venus
And the ghost of you and me
Gagged and given up for dead

(What is that you see?)
Why don’t you talk to me?
(What don’t you talk to me?)
What is that you see?
(What is that you see?)
Wrapping your fingers around my neck

There’s something up there but I
Don’t know what the hell it is
There’s something up there
As you guessed
Like the sun

(What is that you see?)
Why don’t you talk to me?
(What don’t you talk to me?)
What is that you see?
(What is that you see?)
Wrapping your fingers around my neck

SONG INFORMATION

Released: 1990
Found on: 1990 Summer Demo

“What’s That You See?” was recorded and included on a 1990 demo. At the time, the band had stopped using the name On A Friday and had temporarily settled on Shindig, but that was soon dropped and they reverted back to On A Friday before ultimately choosing Radiohead in 1992.

This is the only track from the 1990 demo that Phil Selway played drums on. Nigel Powell had been the drummer while Phil was in Ireland. The 1990 demo was recorded at Nuneham Courtenay Village Hall. This was the first song that Jonny played guitar on. Previously, he was on the keyboards. Jonny describes “What’s That You See?” as “feedback frenzy” and states that it made him realize how bad he wanted to work with Thom Yorke.

This song is sometimes incorrectly called “What’s That You Say?”
